On September 22, 2020, Procreate was updated to [Procreate5X].
This is the main app I use to draw illustrations on my iPad, so I was looking forward to the update!
This time, I will pick up and introduce the changes made in [Procreate5X].
The video provides a detailed explanation. If you want to check it out thoroughly, please click here.
Reference Image Companion
The Reference Image Companion is a function that acts like a navigator in Photoshop.
With this function, it is easier to work on detailed work while checking the overall view or drawing while looking at other materials.
[Pencil Filter] is a function that allows you to apply a filter effect only to the area where the brush is used.
Previously, the effect could only be applied to the entire layer, but now it can be applied only to the area to be brushed, making it easier to use the filter to apply blur to a portion of the layer, or motion blur to a portion of the layer.
Several new filters are now available.
First of all, we have the Gradient Map.
This is a great filter that will be useful for easy color adjustment and as a way to add color after drawing in grayscale!
The library also allows you to save your favorite colors in addition to the defaults.
[Bloom] is a filter that makes bright areas more luminous.
[Glitch] is a filter that can create noise and blocks that are only possible with digital technology.
[Halftone] creates an effect similar to the halftone dots in the printing.
It can be used to create interesting effects such as adjusting the halftone of a black-and-white newspaper or a color halftone.
Chromatic Aberration is a filter that creates a shift in the color channel.
All of the newly added filters create interesting effects that can be utilized for finishing illustrations in Procreate.
Use them in conjunction with the [Pencil filter] mentioned above to make them even more effective!
A new function has been added to [Transform].
The new function of “Transform” allows you to change the size and angle of an image by inputting numerical values.
Another item has been added to Snap.
Fill Selection with Color
The “Fill Selection with Color” function allows you to fill a freehand selection with color in one shot.
This function is useful when you want to fill in a large area or in a specific shape.
[QuickMenu Profile] allows you to add a QuickMenu where you can register your favorite shortcuts.
Each menu can be called up, so you can set up an environment where you can easily work with a collection of shortcuts that are easy to use.
The “Blur” brushes are new blending brushes such as soft blending brushes.
These brushes can be used to mix and match colors beautifully, so you will want to take advantage of them.
